A2 Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For my A2 coursework I decided to make an electronic music video, using the song “Petite” from the french artist N’to, which produce his own electronic music. The choice of that genre is based on what I already know from my AS coursework, as I chosen electronic music as part of my coursework. The resources and knowledge I acquired were useful for my A2 production. The only difference is that I decided to chose a different genre of electronic music, instead of choosing Electro House, I decided to use Electro Pose.

418379_10151012591399177_1755624765_n 54418083 thCAGKQAYH 070524_college_party_02

My targeted audience are age between 16-25, from both gender. However it focuses on a male target audience than female. They would be using social media really often and have access to modern/recent technology. My TA would be currently studying in High School, Colleges or would already be working. Base on their age and the research I did, I can assume that my target audience would be similar to my AS Music Magazine target audience, as I did on EDM ( Electronic Dance Music). Therefore, my target audience goes clubbing, they would drink, smoke, go to festivals/gigs, spending time with love one or friends. However, my Target Audience is a bit different, as I am aiming for an audience which rather have a nice ”House Party” or a ”Chill Night between friends”, but they would still consider going clubbing or drinking in town. As I am aiming for that Target Audience, I would assume that during those knights between friends they would listen to music which is more calm and relax than other genre of EDM. Which is why I decided to use ”Electro Pose” as my main EDM genre.

During the pre-production of my music video, I tried to create something that would fit the song in a unconventional way. During the beginning and middle of my music video, the track/song ”Petite” would emphasis a happy point of view about the music video. I tried to make it fit with flashback of memories with friends, and with the colour correction ”Vintage” that I added on it it would make the whole music video look more ”alive” and ”joyful”.

Here’s a music video of the artist N’to:

To get an idea of what style I could do I watch and rewatch current electronic music videos.

What I appreciate on those videos is the cinematography and the narrative/plot that there are to it ( when there is one !). For example, the music video of Nicky Romero Toulouse have an interesting plot with the masks and a good performance, which made the music video really stand out, the editing was something I really enjoyed from the quick cuts and close up making the video more interesting, as well to fit with the song, for example when the beat drop. This video stands out of the four, as you can see it was made on a low budget compare to Bassjackers by Afrojack or Gold Skies by Martin Garrix and Sander Van Doorn, which clearly shows they had a decent budget to make the music video, which contains an interesting colour grading and camera work. Overall, I believe the colour grading and camera work would be useful for my music video. The bottom video, The way we see the world, is pretty interesting itself as it ”interact” with the targeted audience. Since the whole music video is the recording of a concert, the camera shows a lot of the ”fans”, which keeps the viewer interest watching it, knowing that if he goes to an EDM concert he might be in the official video, which is a good idea to ”sell” the audience the idea that if they go to a concert they might appear on the official DJ video.

Electronic music video are often a narrative without any performance, a live performance, or a mix of the two. Either way they portray something supernatural, happiness, friends, love, sexuality but also anger or sadness. Those would be shown through parties or live festivals. It is quite rare to have an electronic music video driven by narrative, however when it occur it would sometimes, breaks normal conventions of an electronic music video. The audience of electronic music is teenagers to young adults, so the age of my targeted audience would vary between 16 to 35. The gender of the audience is mix, as both gender listen and dance on electronic music. They would be active on the use of social media, they talk more significantly about concerts, would still be students or already working and party. My target audience is really wide, as electronic music is listen by a lot of people. However, I am using a genre of EDM ( Electronic Dance Music ), Electro Pose. This genre is the opposite if the genre ”Electro” for example, which is more lively and made to dance on, the whole tracks would be considered to be ”chill” or relaxing. The perfect genre for EDM fans which want to have a nice and quite night between friends. The audience is the same as EDM, so it is pretty easy to target them.

In the wide tracks and albums in Electro Pose. I decided to use the song titles ”Petite”, which is french for ”small”, created by N’to. The song belong to the genre Electro Pose, part of EDM. Therefore appeal to the same audience I am targeting. I decided to use this song as it is one of my favourite tracks from the artists in the Electro Pose genre. The track itself contains no lyrics, but a repetitive beat followed by other digital instrumentals which I found catchy. It is the kind of song you will play in a night between close friends or when you want to daydream.

Since the video doesn’t have lyrics, it has a narrative. This video particularity interested me out of the few Electro Pose music video, as there is a narrative which is shown in an intriguing way. Interesting camera work, editing and an amazing colour correction/grading. The video may not appeal to everyone, as I shown it to my Film Studies teacher, which found it boring and is over 30. However, I also showed it to people around 18, who listen often to EDM, which found the video ”interesting” or ”amazing”.

The video won second place on music video of the month on Rising Digital : http://rising.digital/music-videos-of-the-month-april/

This video shows a message throughout the visuals with an ending twist which tell us that memories are important. I found that message really appealing and important to tell and decided to add this message in my music video, with carefully being sur I was not ripping off the original music video. With this message I decided to break the conventions of EDM music video by portraying the message in an important and dramatic scenario on my own work. Something I really enjoyed in the music video was the colour editing, which gives a quite dreamy sensation, as well with the lighting which made it more effective. I was also appeal by it, so I added a ”vintage” colour correction on my own music video using Adobe After Effects and while filming on set I tried manipulate lighting to my advantage, as my music video is using brighter colours than the ”official” one. I also paid attention on how I edited my music video to match with the music beat and make it more appealing.

To produce my Digipak I looked at some EDM CDs and I also got inspiration on the background photography on the youtube videos of Electro Pose tracks. I really enjoyed and got inspired by the Electro Pose photography, even though they are not actual CDs cover. The colour correction added on the photography, followed by the logo of Electro Pose music made everything look visually appealing and would link with the track name. The photography also show attractive girls in a less vulgar way that would other genre of Elecronic Music portray them, as it is something common in Electronic music to use attractive girls to promote the music. I liked the idea of linking the colour of the CD cover and Advert with the music video, which is why all my work has a ”vintage” colour correction on it. Most of my design were base on those background photography of Electro Pose. There is a font used in electro which is looking classical and modern. I tired to download this font to  create something similar in my coursework. After looking carefully, I understood the code and convention of an Electro Pose poster. So I tried to create something similar with my print work, for example instead of having a circle on the middle I added a rhombus instead. It look similar in the way I edited, so I can still relate to the original worj.

maxresdefault.jpg dessin-25.png dessin-14.png

I also looked at the CD cover of David Guetta ”One Love” for inspiration of my Digipak. I was really appeal by the photography used on the front cover, which is pretty simple. The photography was just retouched in black and white with the title of the song along the DJ name on the top right. The DJ name use the same font, a really futurist looking font, so that the audience would directly recognize the artist by the font of his name, which is used in all his work. The title of the album uses a font that make it look as if it was written with lipstick with a pink colour, adding more sense to the title name ”One Love”. The back of the CD cover is also really interesting, as it would overall look ”normal” but then the title of the album is carefully place on the left, breaking this ”normal look’ of the back cover, as the lines goes all over the place. I enjoyed the idea of this and applied it on my CD cover, with the back of my CD cover looking normal, but then the photography stands out.

davidguettae28093onelovenewversion2010

During those research, I learned more about the code and conventions about Electronic Music.  For example the music videos would have bright colours, would be strange/weird and won’t always make sense. They tend to have sexuality, drugs, love and dancing with a beat. Women are really sexualize in Electronic Music Videos, especially in House genre. However, in Electro Pose the women are sexualize but in a more ”dignified” manner. They would be shown in a really attractive way, but unlike Electro House genre, they would have some ”full” clothes on, and would not be in really sexualize pose.

My Digipak have a big synergy with my music video, as I used the ”vintage” colour correction on both of them. The bright colours follows the code and conventions of EDM, as well the photography used in it really stands out, as they can be seen in the video. The CD itself is really distinctive with the photography of the two twin sisters and the cracks on it, relating to the narrative of the music video. I made the CD broken, as said before to follow the narrative, and to make it look as if it was a picture which was broken from time. I wanted to make the inside stand out from the outisde, as the outside look as a normal Electronic Music CD, but once you open it there is a strong synergy with the music video. The main theme of my music video is about the love after death. Which I believe can be clearly seen on the inside of the digipak with the cemetery and the photography of the twins.

Digipak Version Final

MusicAdvertFinal

My music video follows a linear narrative, from start to middle to the ending, which follows the code and conventions of Electronic Music Video. The music video start with a ”lively” style, with the ”vintage” colour, this is the emphasis life as something really bright and lovely. However, the narrative of my music video breaks the code and conventions of EDM as the main topic is about death. Something which is not really common in the EDM, as often the main topics are about love, sexuality, friends and dance. I decided to use two twin sisters, as it would be more easy to have the audience understand that they are sisters, therefore making a larger effect on them during the reveal at the ending. Using reference to alcohol and cigarette, I follow the main conventions, as EDM portray parties. Appealing to my target audience, as they would be similar to EDM audience. The editing of my music video was quite important, as I tried to cut scenes with the beat and add some long scenes to make it fit with the music.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

During my project. I wanted to have my prints and moving image have a synergy between them, which there are a lot. The use of the colour correction ”vintage” used on the music video was added into my print work, which really stands out. So the audience would remember the music video as they see the print work, or the opposite. On the Digipak I had multiple reference to the music video. For example, I designed the CD to have the photography of the twins sisters. Which the same photography can be seen in a frame within the music video as the ”main twin” walks by it with a sad expression. I added on the digipak CD some cracking to make the audience who already saw the music video understand that the frame has broken, or for the audience who didn’t saw the music video yet, to understand that the narrative of it is on two twin sisters. I also added photography of the music video, such as the ”main twin” holding flowers, a can of beer and a pack of cigarette, so that the audience would be appeal by those conventions of EDM and relate the red flowers, which mean love and death, with the music video making it effective on the TA. On the back of the Digipak, I made it look quite simple with a photography from within the music video which scratch marks on it, to make it look old and destroy, having an effect to the audience buying the digipak and wondering why is the photography full of scratches and would understand it after watching the music video.

Digipak Version Final

MusicAdvertFinal

My advertisement poster shows less of the ”vintage” colour correction, as it looks quite dark. I did it in purpose so that the photography of the flowers stands out, so when the audience sees the poster and the flowers they would hopefully understand that it relates to love and death, which the narrative is the narrative of the music video. The whole poster with the rhombus on the middle with the DJ name inside it is suppose to appeal to my Target Audience, as there would often be something similar on the photography of other print works, therefore having them hopefully understand the genre.

Synergy and Branding

3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

photo 070524_college_party_02 Alex-Dunstan-for-HM-MaleModelSceneNet-00 2012-07-28%20-%20TOMORROWLAND%20-%20SUNDAY%20-%20057

My Target Audience consists of people age between 16-25, from both gender but more appealing toward a male audience. Since I am following a bit the code and conventions of an EDM music video which include love, dance and sexuality. Appealing therefore a male audience, but the narrative could also appeal an female audience. My Target Audience have similarities with my Target Audience I had for my AS Music Magazine. They would go clubbing, be drinking and smoking, wearing some clothes from brands such as Zara, Volcom or Independent Brand.

imagesCA5XC5R0 volcom-copy thCA1ZJCIS oakley_logo hm

They would also be current students or already working. The Target Audience of my A2 Music Video are people working with a lot of media technology, they would also be clubbing, however they would have a wider area of genre of music they listen too, such as classical to pop. They would rather have a house party/night drinking than go to town/clubbing. So I had to focus on promoting my music videos online, where someone would access it by a house computer, laptop or by phone.

After analysing my pre-production survey: https://ballims.wordpress.com/2014/11/13/a2-pre-production-poll-daddys/?preview=true&preview_id=531&preview_nonce=ec18eeaa37&post_format=standard

The results shows that most of the people who answered the pre-production survey were age around 14-18 years old and the rest were age between 18-25 years old. It is the target audience I was aiming for my music video. It revealed to me that the gender of my audience are equals. 50% are boys and another 50% are girls. It suggest that both gender would be watching my music video and print work. I then asked where they would be most likely to watch my music video. YouTube was the main website I was focusing on publishing my music video. The survey showed me that 46% of my T.A uses YouTube to watch music video, which is great for what I was aiming for. Between the use of TV and Phones, 21% is for TV and 17% for phones. Suggesting that between those two device people would be more likely to use a TV to access a music video than a phone. 14% would be using other websites to access music videos. The poll revealed to me that what I was targeting to publish my music video was Indeed a good idea.

I then asked which social website would they most likely be using. Facebook is the most used social website, but it is not surprising as most of the new generation would be found on social media such as Facebook. It means I could reach my Target Audience by promoting on social media such as Facebook or Twitter. The feedback of my audience confirmed that I need to promote on Facebook (58%) and Twitter (26%).

unknownunnamed

My last question on my pre-production survey was what kind of technology do my audience use. From the results of the polls, my audience is really active when it comes to technology. 23% would be using computer and laptops, and 20% of them are Apple users. Meaning I should focus promoting my music video on Apple Product, to attract my target audience more easily. More than that, 18% are smartphone/phone and tablets users. I could promote more easily through the use of social media as they have an easy access to it, such as YouTube or Facebook. 20% of them are also using earphones and music helmet, I could reach my targeted audience by also promoting around music helmets brands, so I will reach my audience more easily.

Base on that I went foward on making my music video and the print work, trying to find materials that would keep them interested with my project.

After analysing my post-production survey : https://ballims.wordpress.com/category/a2-post-production-survey-page/

I discover that my music video was really interesting toward the ending, the beginning, but lost a bit of interest in the middle. Which help me to understand that I should have done the middle more interesting in order to keep my audience interested, but with the ending being the most voted as ”interesting” my audience followed the ”curve of interest” of my music video, therefore making it ”successful” from my opinion. This was backup with one of the poll asking if they lost interest halfway through the video, which 7 person voted no, 4 for a little bit and 1 for no. Their feedback told me that the narrative of the story was easy to get ( 10 votes ) and 3 votes didn’t quite get it, overall my audience understood my music video. One of my questions of my survey was what did my audience enjoy the most and dislike in my music video. The editing ( 7 vote ) and colour correction ( 5 vote ) were the most successful part of my music video. However, the narrative should be improved from my audience feedback. My audience would watch my video again ( 7 votes for yes, 5 for maybe and 0 for no ), which mean my music video was successful on appealing the audience. As for recommending my music video, the result is quite similar with 8 votes for yes, 2 votes for no and 2 votes for maybe. As for trying to break the code and conventions of EDM videos, the audience feedback told me that it was not breaking the conventions ( 4 votes ), a little bit ( 5 votes ) and it does ( 3 votes ), so my original plan of breaking the normal conventions was half successful.

To finish with the music video, I asked them to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. It had 9 votes that were between 8 to 10. There was only 3 vote between 4 to 6. I can then assume that my music video was a success to appeal my target audience.

I then started to receive feedbacks from my print work. Having asked questions such as if the genre is obvious through the print work, which was obvious base on the vote, to know of what I was aiming for was successful. I worked really hard to have a synergy between the print work and the music video, which the majority of my audience notice, having the photography and the colour correction being the most favourite work of my TA.

I asked my audience if they would purchase the album after seeing the print work and the music video, 70% said yes and 30% no. So I can assume that my print worked targeted the good audience and was overall successful.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

For the production of my music video, I used a DSLR Canon 600D, which was really useful as it give a semi-professional visual for my music video. I also used this camera for the photography of the print works, as it has an option to take pictures. I already worked with this camera from other projects, such as short films. I enjoyed the quality that it gives and the way to quickly change lenses during filming. The use of the ISO is pretty easy too, so for balancing the lighting on the camera it was pretty easy. The camera is pretty easy to handle and to be carried on location. However, using handheld is a bad decision as the stability of the camera is not the best, therefore having some equipment, such as a steadycam was essential to assure a more stable shooting.Canon-600D-Digital-Camera-HD-Background-wallpaper-for-Apple

filmcity-dslr-camera-cahe-shoulder-rig-kit

I used a tripod to make my shots more stable, learning from mistakes I did in the past. Which gave my video a more ”professional” look, and most of my shots which I could consider as ”nice” were shot on a tripod. I also used a steadycam, which was a PROAIM DSLR Filmmaking Kit 6-CF. This steadycam have a lot of advantage. For example the shoulder support and the cage brackets helped me to do some nice tracking shots of my actors. The Matte Box was really useful against the sun and strong lighting and with the follow focus, focusing was more easy and stable. Adding the steadycam on the tripod made everything more useful, for  example focusing.

For the Editing, I used Adobe CC Premier Pro, which I have a lot of experience with as it’s the editing software I always work with, to edit my music video as I planned in my pre-production.Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CCAdobe-After-Effects-CC-2014-logo

It took me a while to learn how to properly use the software as it is a ”professional editing software”, but now having the sufficient experience I find Premier Pro really advantageous as it is not ”limited”. You can create and modify your footages as you want, however it takes time. For the colour correction of my music video, which was one of the most important part, I used Adobe After Effects, which I also have a lot of experience on it with past projects which needed a lot of special effects. After watching some tutorial on YouTube to learn how to do a vintage effect on the footage I have shot and apply it. I exported my After Effects projects into Adobe Premier to add the last editing modification. Once everything was the way I want it, I exported the video on my laptop and then uploaded it on my YouTube channel on the name of my studio, EagleQuestStudios.

welcome_screen

For my print worked, I worked with Adobe Photoshop CC. I already have a lot of experience with photoshop, as I produced a lot of work using that software. It was difficult at first to use it, but after a lot of practice I manage to master it while working on other projects, which really helped me for my print work. I had to add the vintage colour on the photos, so I worked carefully with the Brightness & contrast and with the curves options, so my work would have a synergy with the music video and the print work. The step were the same as in After Effects. Photoshop helped me to make my print work look as similar as it was in my head. Photoshop is really easy to use, I carefully chose the font for my print work and tried the use the same everywhere. With the option that photoshop gave me, I modified some of the photography to make them look ”destroyed” or ”damage by time”. I used texture that I had in stock from old projects to add those cracking effects. I also downloaded brushes to add a ”damage” effect on the pictures with using the eraser and changing brushes.

For my research and pre-production planning the internet was the most useful. I mostly used YouTube to watch existing work and learn about their code and conventions and get inspiration. It has a wide range of EDM genre music videos, so I had a large sources to work on. However, for the specific genre I was using, there was not a lot of sources which complicated my research. I also went through website, such as main EDM productions and artists pages. It helped me learn more about my Target Audience. I also used my blog to post poll daddy, so I can have feedback of my work and improve it if necessary, which proved to be really useful on the post-production of my music video. Facebook was also really useful, as I could go through fan pages and learn more about my target audience, which after going through some deep research are age between 16-25, would party, be students and use a lot of ”modern” technology to access mainstream media.

I also used WordPress to add my storyboard and scripts, so I could access it online, in case something happen. WordPress was also really useful to add poll daddy’s so I could receive feedback from my audience and know where I should be going with my project. I can add pictures to add more details into my researches and even videos. WordPress is easily accessible, which gave me a lot of advantage as I could send a simple link to my friends in my home country and ask them to full my surveys.

1. Overall Design

The magazine advertisement that I have chosen, promotes the new album of the band ” Kings of Leon ”, titled ” Come Around Sundown” released in 2010. The overall photography is the leaf of a palm tree during a dawn, we know it is dawn as the title of the album is ” Come Around Sundown”, the audience will automatically relate it to the photography. The photography has been redone on photoshop to emphasis the sunset/dawn. The colour palette of the advert is quite positive, containing white, blue, yellow, orange and black colours, it makes the band appear cheerful and full of life. The image would be hard to identified without the band name on it, but the images style stands out.  The images gives quite a ”holiday” feeling, as palm trees are exotic and would mostly be seen in Southern Countries. The band name has been put on top of the advert, so it can be clearly identified by the audience. The album name and release was added down the advert, because the audience is going to watch the advert they will look from top to down, as the band name really stand out. However, the whole advert is quite unconventional for a rock magazine, but the style of this rock music is quite different from normal rock stereotypes. Which would mean that their audience would easily know one of their advert, as it would be unusual and link to the style of their music. This would be more a promotional advert to the album, than the band themselves, as the only reference of the band is their name.

2. Text

The name of the band really stands out. The typography and font of the text has an old 50s style on it, is really large and noticeable on top of the advert, the inside is full white to make it easily to see on the advert. Probably to encourage audience to consume more easily the advert. The next text noticeable, are the album title and release. The album title has the same typography and font as the band logo. Probably to make it more stand out from the bottom, and link it more easily with the band as the album name. The fact that it is also in white makes it stand out more, with the small text of the release date for the album in the same font but instead of having the inside full of white, it has nothing in it, so the audience can only read it by the outlines colours. This was made so the the targeted audience would notice it after having read the band logo and album title.

3. Band branding

The advert promotes the band logo and new album directly. Using the top and bottom to place those two text, it attract the targeted audience more easily, and with the text fitting with the background. They have the most distinguished font on the advert. The advert is portraying a very similar photography as the album digipak cover. Made in purpose by the graphic designer, so that the audience will recognize the album in a store more easily. The band website and production company are place, in a really little size, below the advert. Probably because it is the less important thing to promote on the advert.

4. Graphics & Photography

The graphic and photography has been carefully made by the designer to easily link with the album cover, so the audience would consume it more easily. The photography, retouched in photoshop to make it more appealing, showing leaf from a palm tree is suppose to gives some hint about what the next album would be about and link perfectly with the tile ” Come Around Sundown”. The photography gives also quite a ” heavenly holidays ” appearance. As this would probably be the view of someone laying on the sand looking up as the sun sets down on a dreamlike island he is probably on. It also stands really out with the colour palette on it, as it is pretty simple and the whole advert is only one picture with small text on it. This allowed the consumer to quickly read it and inject it in his head.

A2 – Digipak Deconstruction

david-guetta-one-love-back-cover-19147davidguettae28093onelovenewversion2010

1. Overall Design

This is an album from David Guetta called, ” One Love ” released in 2009. The graphic work is really simple, something really conventional in this genre of music, it shows David Guetta with a pair of glasses in a black & white filter. The whole album is quite simple, making it the audience recognize it more simply. The colour palette is very limited as it stick to white, black and pink. Making it more stand out. Yet the colour white stands out with his name, written in white, included in the album name. Making it more easily understandable that it is David Guetta. The fact that there is some pink used in the album design, is a metaphor for woman lipstick. Electro Music is often related to attractive woman, sexually appealing. The photography of the artist is making him look ” cool ” to the targeted audience. As he is just glaring at the side of the main cover, with his sunglasses on and his mouth slightly open as if he was taking a fresh breath of air or about to say something. Even with the glasses he can be easily identified that it is David Guetta. The overall photography should be appealing to the targeted audience, which are the new generation. The back cover stick with the black and white theme. The typography sticks with the front cover, so the audience will be more familiar with his albums typography style. At the bottom there are all the record labels, which helps to distinctively show which genre it is.

 2. Text

The colour of the text varies to white, pink and black.  The typography on the front cover is his own logo in white, allowing the audience to remember where they have seen that font before, it stands out from the background making it more noticeable. The name of the album ” One Love ” is in a pink font. It looks like someone quickly painted the name of the album on the cover, making the album name stand out and more unique. The fact that the colour pink is used, it related to attractive woman, which is something often seen in the electro genre and in David Guetta music. The back of the album stick to the same colour scheme, black, white and pink. It follows a dirty paint effect on the whole cover. It still use the same typography as the name of the artist, making the audience remember more easily the artist. The album title is written over the artist name, to make it look more dirty and creative.

3. Band Branding

The artist is represented through his logo, which does not vary from others albums or commercial promotions, he decided to keep the same logo but change the colour into white to fit the album cover. It is something very conventional in this genre of music to have artists keep the same logo throughout their multiple albums. It is well aligned with the photography and can be clearly be read. In the back, his logo is still clear and perfectly readable, so the audience would remember him more and more.

4. Graphics & Photography

The album shows David Guetta, looking cool, in a Black & White filter, wearing sunglasses and a white shirt looking down with his mouth slowly open. It also shows the logo and the album title ” One Love ”, linking it with David Guetta that he only loves on person or is about something that you can only love alone. Through the colour palette, it make the album stands out more and gives an attractive side in it. The background has been darken, to make the artist stands out more, so the audience will recognize him more easily. The cover has clearly be manipulate in photoshop to make it look like this.

A2 Pre-Production Survey Analysis

  • How old are you?
  1. 14-18   78% ( 11 votes )
  2. 18-25   22% ( 3 votes )
  3. 25<       0% ( 0 votes )

The results shows that most of the people who answered the survey were 14-18 years old and the rest were 18-25 years old. It is the nearly the target audience I am aiming for my music video, as in first I was aiming for an audience of young adults. Yet, most of the people who answered my survey are sixth formers from my media course, the results are close to what I wish my target audience to be.

  • What is your Gender?
  1. Boy   50% ( 5 votes )
  2. Girl   50% (5 votes )

The survey analysis showed me some result that would probably be inaccurate, as it looks not everyone has voted on that poll. Yet it reveal to me that the gender of my audience are equals. 50% are boys and another 50% are girls. It suggest that both gender would be watching my music video. Yet my music video was first aiming more toward a male audience, but still considering a female audience.

  •  Where would you watch a music video?
  1. YouTube   46%   ( 13 votes )
  2. TV              21%   ( 6 votes )
  3. Phones      17%   ( 5 votes )
  4. Other Internet   14% ( 4 votes )

YouTube was the main website I was focusing and publishing my music video. The survey showed me that 46% of my T.A uses YouTube to watch music video, which is great for what I was aiming for. Between the use of TV and Phones, 21% is for TV and 17% for phones. Suggesting that between those two device people would be more likely to use a TV to access a music video than a phone, yet I have some doubts that this is true. 14% would be using other websites to access music videos. The poll revealed to me that what I was targeting to publish my music video was Indeed a good idea.

  •  What is your favourite Electronic Music Genre?
  1. House Music   25%   ( 6 votes )
  2. Disco                20%   ( 5 votes )
  3. Electro Music 12%   ( 3 votes )
  4. Electronic Rock 12% ( 3 votes )
  5. Ambient           8%   ( 2 votes )
  6. Breakbeat        4%   ( 1 vote )
  7. Electro Pose   4%   ( 1 vote )

House music, as expected, is the most favourite music to my target audience with 25% of the votes. Disco would then be the second favourite with 20%. The others genre varies from 4% to 12%, including Electro Pose in it. It suggest that my Targeted Audience is either not fan of Electro Pose, or just never heard of it. So I believe this could be a great genre to use for my music video, as I was planning for, to introduce a new genre to my targeted audience and make them enjoy it.

  •  Which social website do you use?
  1. Facebook   58%   ( 20 votes )
  2. Twitter       26%   ( 9 votes )
  3. Random Forums 8%   ( 3 votes )
  4. My Space   5%   ( 2 votes )

Those polls showed me, where my Target Audience would mostly be found wandering on. Facebook is the most used social website, but it is not surprising as most of the new generation would be found on social website such as Facebook. It means I could reach my Target Audience by promoting on social websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Those results approve that I need to focus promoting on Facebook.

  • What technology do you use?
  1. Computer/laptop   23%   ( 10 votes )
  2. Apple Product        20%   (9 votes )
  3. Earphones/Music Helmet 20% ( 9 votes )
  4. Phone/Smartphone 18% ( 8 votes )
  5. Tablets    18%   ( 8 votes )

Those polls prove that my audience is really active when it comes to technology. 23% would be using computer and laptops, and 20% of them are Apple users. Meaning I should focus promoting my music video with Apple Product, to attract my target audience more easily. More than that, 18% are smartphone/phone and tablets users, so I could promote more easily through the use of social media as they have an easy access to it. 20% of them are also using earphones and music helmet, I could reach my targeted audience by also promoting around music helmets brands, so I will reach my audience more easily.
